About The Position

The Willow Creek Area team is seeking a skilled Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Technician to join our operations team. Reporting to the Area Manager, the EIC Controls Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment, including electronic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical control systems, devices, measurement, and ancillary equipment, in a manner that supports safe, reliable operations and complies with company and regulatory requirements. The role also requires supporting work across disciplines as needed. This is a fully qualified field role suited to a safety-focused, self-motivated, resourceful, and competent technician with strong troubleshooting ability, sound judgment, and demonstrated experience supporting station operations, maintenance, reliability, and emergency response. The role supports a diverse asset base that includes aero-derivative and gas driven compressors up to 42,000 HP, as well as custody transfer measurement stations across the Willow Creek Area. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a manner that reflects TC Energy’s Four Pillars: Safety, People, Operational Performance, and Financial Stewardship, while demonstrating a commitment to continual learning and the ability to adapt to and champion change. The position will be based out of Airdrie, Alberta. This position may support surrounding facilities depending on operational needs.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson, Red Seal, or equivalent recognized trade certification in Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, or a closely related discipline.
  • 10 or more years of related work experience
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to provide a driver’s abstract.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Willingness to travel for temporary assignments, meetings, or training, including occasional overnight stays away from home.
  • Participation in on-call rotation, overtime, and emergency support as required.
  • Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position. Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant when driving is an essential job function.

  • Experience using SAP, computerized maintenance management systems, and digital tools for reporting, work management, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate contractors, prioritize work, and support outage or project execution.
  • Experience issuing work authorizations and permits, completing hazard reviews, and leading tailgates and other field or safety meetings in support of safe work execution.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines in a geographically dispersed area and consistently demonstrate the values of Safety, People, Operational Performance, and Financial Stewardship.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, test, repair, calibrate, and maintain natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment, including electronic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and control systems, including aero-derivative and gas driven compressors up to 42,000 HP.
  • Perform installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair work on compressor station equipment, custody transfer measurement assets, and related pipeline facilities.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and maintain shutdown devices, fire and gas systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, UPS devices, relief and over pressure protection devices, control valves, PLCs, and control systems.
  • Independently diagnose equipment and control system issues, identify corrective actions, and execute maintenance work safely and effectively.
  • Coordinate and monitor contractors or subcontractors as required and support outage, project, and turnaround activities across the area.
  • Complete administrative functions and accurately use company systems and digital tools for communication, work management, reporting, and maintenance documentation.
  • Always observe and follow company and regulatory safety standards, including issuing work authorizations and permits, completing hazard reviews, leading tailgates and other safety or work-related meetings, and ensuring compliance with Community, Safety, and Environment requirements.
  • Maintain operator qualifications and technical task certifications, provide technical guidance when required, and participate in emergency repairs and operational support as needed.
  • Assist with initiatives, drive process consistency and mentor junior staff.
