About The Position

The incumbent provides for the establishment, maintenance, and management of classroom activities and providing those services necessary to meet the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards. Maintains confidentiality about issues concerning other staff members, children, and families of Enrichment Services Program. This role involves understanding and demonstrating knowledge of ages and stages of development, interacting affectionately and respectfully with children, respecting children's interests, intervening when needed to maintain safety, enhancing children's play, communicating directly with children at their level, engaging constructively with individual children, assisting and being responsive to children's needs, encouraging and modeling social behavior, acknowledging feelings with sensitivity, practicing positive discipline techniques, being attentive and supportive during transitions, assisting with recording observations, recruiting volunteers, soliciting in-kind contributions, attending meetings and trainings, serving as an advocate, implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum, maintaining safety and health rules, supervising children at all times, knowing the number of children and maintaining ratios, maintaining accurate attendance records, completing paperwork, encouraging healthy practices, keeping the environment and equipment safe and clean, assisting in arrangement of space, organizing materials, developing and implementing lesson plans and schedules, developing and maintaining learning centers, feeding infants and toddlers according to program policy, completing daily health and anecdotal observations, completing home visits and parent-teacher conferences, completing assessments, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • TCC and/or CDA (for EHS Teacher)
  • Associate’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Associate’s Degree (for EHS Teacher I)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Bachelor’s Degree (for EHS Teacher II)
  • Master’s Degree in ECE or TCC/CDA with Master’s Degree or higher (for EHS Teacher III)
  • One to three years of experience (for Level 2 compensation)
  • Understanding of ages and stages of development.
  • Knowledge of physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development for the age group.
  • Ability to interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully with children.
  • Ability to communicate directly with children at their level.
  • Ability to engage and communicate constructively with individual children.
  • Ability to assist and be responsive to children's needs.
  • Ability to encourage and model social behavior.

  • Supervise children at all times.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the entire group while working with a small group or individuals.
  • Know the number of children in your group and maintain ratios at all times.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork (e.g., accidents, medication, allergies).
  • Encourage children to utilize appropriate health, safety, and nutritional practices.
  • Keep the environment and equipment safe, clean, and attractive.
  • Encourage respect for classroom materials.
  • Notify designated individuals in advance when supplies are needed.
  • Assist in arrangement of space into clearly defined, well organized activity areas.
  • Organize a variety of materials on low, open shelves for children to use independently.
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans and daily schedules.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain learning centers within the classroom.
  • Feed infants according to their home schedule, hold them every time they are fed, and share information about their eating with their parents daily.
  • Begin family style dining with toddlers when they are ready and implement according to program policy and procedures, and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Complete daily health & anecdotal observations of children.
  • Complete Home Visits and Parent Teacher Conferences a minimum of twice a year.
  • Complete assessments on the kids in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
