About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist (EHS) is responsible for implementing existing company EHS programs and ensuring regulatory compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental, occupational health, and safety regulations, coordinating with the leaders and workers throughout the organization. This position reports to the Director of EHS. This role is onsite in Fort Myers, Florida.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Environmental, occupational health & Safety, industrial hygiene, engineering or similar.
  • 5+ years of experience as a safety leader and the overall management of the EHS program
  • Good understanding of federal, state and local regulatory authority, including: EPA, OSHA, DOT, and familiarity with federal, RCRA, CWA, SWPPP, SPCC, PSM, PHA, LOTO, PPE, HAZMAT, Machine Guarding, GHS, Confined Space Entry, Crane Safety, and Forklift Training.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-service attitude.
  • Industrial/Manufacturing EH&S experience
  • Proficient in computer software applications (Microsoft office suite).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in implementing and/or maintaining ISO14001, ISO45001, or similar certification system.

  • Bilingual – English/Spanish
  • ASP, CSP, or similar professional certification desireable

Responsibilities

  • Support the platform Director of EHS in all regulatory and corporate reporting requirements.
  • Lead all site-level EHS programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Maintain and continuously improve safety systems, policies, SOPs, and training programs.
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, ergonomic reviews, and internal audits.
  • Coordinate all PPE programs including, but not limited to, Safety Shoe/Glasses, Industrial Hygiene, Air Quality monitoring, Hearing Conservation, etc.
  • Deliver training across all EHS programs including new hire orientation, respirator use, hazardous chemicals, proper lifting techniques, emergency response, etc.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action implementation.
  • Facilitate safety committees, safety communication, toolbox talks, and employee engagement efforts.
  • Monitor safety metrics and develop action plans to reduce risk and enhance performance.
  • Ability to become a qualified first responder within 12 weeks of assignment
  • Knowledge and Ability to interact and update the Gensuite EHS Database.
  • Manage hazardous waste, chemical inventories, SDS library for products sold and products used, and environmental reporting.
  • Directly manage processes related to hazardous waste generation, chemistry production monitoring and control, and related emergency response procedures.
  • Act as the Emergency Response Leader for the organization.
  • Work with production supervisors to develop and implement programs to maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with EHS regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct worker risk assessments, including safety and occupational health, with emphasis on eliminating or reducing potential hazardous conditions.
  • Review incident and accident reports to determine measures needed to prevent recurrences, including root cause analysis.
  • Identify EHS training needs, conduct and oversee training, and ensure maintenance of the company training database.
  • Supportive an effective safety committee with clear goals and objectives.
  • Develop or assist in developing, organizing, scheduling and conducting training programs for the Chemistry Production department, HAZMAT team
  • Actively participate in HAZMAT training, required cleanups, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Interface with EHS consultants in all appropriate internal auditing, reporting and training activities
