About The Position

Novelis is a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, providing sustainable aluminum solutions for aerospace, automotive, beverage packaging, and specialty markets. With headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis operates 32 facilities across 4 continents and employs approximately 13,000 people. The Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking an EHS Specialist for its operational facilities in Ashville, OH. This role is part of the local EHS Team, reporting to the Ashville EHS Manager. The Specialist will manage environmental compliance programs, assess the impact of regulations on operations, investigate and recommend corrective actions for environmental compliance issues, and drive continuous improvement in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant field (Engineering; Occupational Safety or Environmental related) OR an Associate Degree with a relevant EHS Professional Certification (GSP, ASP, or CSP and Ohio Class I Waste Water Operator are acceptable).
  • Certification, or the ability to progress to certification.
  • Must actively seek to pursue Ohio Waste Water Class I Operator certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Ability to contribute and participate in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn, read, understand, and communicate EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to accomplish assigned tasks, provide feedback, construct plans, and demonstrate confidence in team leader and member roles.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work.
  • Ability to recognize and analyze critical issues, identify and assign resources, and follow-up to task completion.
  • Ability to apply sampling and analysis protocol to provide accurate data and to explain and train others in sampling protocol.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress to Ohio Waste Water Class I Operator certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or ensure completion of all required daily, weekly, monthly, or periodic EHS inspections according to local, state, and federal statutes, permits, or company policy.
  • Compile information and prepare various EHS reports for accurate and timely submittal to regulatory agencies to maintain operating permits.
  • Attend necessary training programs and develop/present EHS training materials to plant employees.
  • Audit and maintain systems to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental programs.
  • Monitor and educate local management on regulatory initiatives and proposed rules.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of environmental compliance, such as waste reduction, data collection, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Maintain professional relationships with environmental regulatory authorities.
  • Escort regulatory inspectors through site operations, respond to inquiries, and communicate inspection results to management.
  • Conduct behavior-based safety observations.
  • Make recommendations for corrective or preventative compliance actions based on data acquisition systems.
  • Provide guidance for operating procedures as directed by the Manager.
  • Collect and analyze injury data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Audit Health and Safety Procedures and maintain necessary records.
  • Assist in the investigation of all HS&E incidents, including environmental excursions, NOV's, near misses, and injuries.
  • Oversee the waste water facility, providing supervision, reporting to Novelis management and Ohio EPA.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
