Durez Niagara Falls is in need of an EHS Specialist. $65,000-76,000 annual dependent on experience. The EHS Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of the various programs and processes involved in the Environmental area. This will include administration and coordination for environmental programs, emergency response, and health and safety. This accountability will be achieved through working with the EHS Manager. Will promote the effort to meet our goals of drastic reduction of waste generation. Will work to protect or improve air, land, and water resources in order to provide a clean and healthful environment. Will assist with leadership support to influence development of a proactive approach to environmental assuring sound management systems are in place that meet all regulatory requirements and provides a work environment free of unnecessary safety and health risks. Participate with EHS Manager on planning, designing, constructing, modifying or improving and maintaining facilities either by in-house or contractual effort, regulating and enforcing environmental engineering policies, programs or activities

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree required; Bachelors degree preferred in Environmental, EHS, Safety or Occupational Health
  • 1 year related experience in environmental, health and safety preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
  • Experience in Wastewater Treatment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with compliance with all environmental regulations and requirements to include the handling of hazardous materials in conjunction with PSM and RMP with EHS Manager oversite
  • Participate with EHS Manager with state and federal regulatory reports and manage permit modifications to meet business growth and opportunities.
  • Participate with EHS Manager on planning, designing, constructing, modifying or improving and maintaining facilities either by in-house or contractual effort, regulating and enforcing environmental engineering policies, programs or activities
  • Participate in environmental training as required
  • Participate in investigating, measuring, and evaluating environmental conditions
  • Assist in tracking EHS corrective and preventative actions to completion
  • Assist with the plant’s environmental programs consisting of waste management, applicable government reporting.
  • Maintaining an annual compliance calendar.
  • Assist in preparing for and sit in on audits and evaluations regarding EHS regulatory and system compliance.
  • Participate in investigation of EHS incidents in the facilities and identify trends that require attention to improve EHS and security.
  • Participate in the emergency response program by assisting the EHS Manager with resources and training for members to maintain a state of readiness for emergencies in the plant
  • Works in conjunction with Health and Safety on Process Safety Management activities
  • Member of all health, environment and safety related investigations and committees at the assigned facilities
  • Interface with numerous corporate, legal, and local personnel
  • Extensive and intensive interfacing with State/Provincial and local agencies to maintain excellent working relationships
  • Maintains contact with local hospitals, fire departments and managed care organizations are required
  • Maintains a relationship with insurance companies and management system agencies
