About The Position

PolyPeptide is seeking an EHS Specialist to lead environmental and hazardous waste initiatives at our site in Torrance, CA. This is a high-impact role where you will partner with engineering, operations, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and support sustainable growth in a GMP manufacturing environment. As an EHS Specialist, you will serve as the site subject matter expert for environmental and hazardous waste programs, driving compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting operational excellence. You will play a key role in risk assessments, permitting, waste management, and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety, or related field
  • 2–5 years of EHS experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or related industry
  • Experience with environmental and hazardous waste regulations and permitting
  • Strong background in risk assessments and chemical safety
  • Experience supporting or leading EHS-related projects

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee environmental and hazardous waste management programs
  • Prepare and submit permits, reports, and regulatory communications
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective action plans
  • Investigate incidents and lead root cause analysis and documentation
  • Perform routine site inspections to ensure compliance
  • Support engineering teams on environmental permits and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in HazOp and EHS risk assessments for new and existing projects
  • Lead or support pre-job safety assessments for subcontractor activities
  • Coordinate with external specialists for environmental evaluations
  • Issue and manage permits to work in line with regulations and internal procedures
  • Contribute to the development of global EHS systems and SOPs
  • Support harmonization of EHS processes across sites
  • Lead internal initiatives to improve safety, compliance, and operational efficiency
  • Share knowledge and provide guidance across cross-functional teams
