About The Position

The EHS Specialist I is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture while ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role partners closely with operations to identify and reduce risk, support process safety, and improve overall plant performance. The position plays a key role in embedding safety into daily operations, supporting regulatory compliance, and contributing to operational excellence through safer, more stable processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1–3 years of experience in safety, manufacturing, or industrial environment
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations, OSHA 10 equivalent
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety, or related field
  • Experience in chemical, manufacturing, or process industries
  • Knowledge of EPA regulations and environmental compliance
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Experience with root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.)
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support programs to prevent occupational injuries, illnesses, and environmental incidents
  • Identify, assess, and drive reduction of workplace and process-related risks
  • Conduct routine audits, observations, and inspections; ensure timely corrective action closure
  • Lead or support incident investigations using root cause analysis methods
  • Track and trend safety data to identify recurring issues and implement sustainable solutions
  • Partner with operations to integrate safety into standard work and daily production activities
  • Support initiatives that improve process stability, uptime, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
  • Assist in evaluating process changes for safety and environmental impact
  • Participate in continuous improvement and capacity planning efforts
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable local/state regulations
  • Maintain and improve EHS policies, procedures, and documentation systems
  • Support environmental reporting, permitting, and compliance activities
  • Standardize safety processes, reporting, and recordkeeping
  • Deliver and support safety training across all levels of the organization
  • Partner with supervisors to reinforce safe behaviors and accountability
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement and communication
  • Encourage and track near-miss and hazard reporting
  • Safety meetings and training for the plant
