About The Position

Plans, directs, and implements organization safety program to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties personally or through supervisors.

Requirements

  • Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; four to five years related experience and/or training in the housing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • OHSA Certification
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to work with a senior leadership team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees, and vendors.
  • Personal integrity and able to perform all job responsibilities in an ethical and non-discriminatory manner.
  • Ability to retain confidential information.
  • Problem solving and reasoning ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and can effectively communicate with all levels within the organization, customers, and corporate officials.
  • Determination and assertiveness to accomplish goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings.
  • Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Maintains safety files and records, both written and in the computer.
  • Conduct Forklift training and certification.
  • Safety orientation with all new employees.
  • Implement and train Behavior Based Safety (BBS) programs.
  • Encourages accountability within Leadership for employee safety in their areas and make safety the number 1 priority.
  • Plant tours as requested.
  • Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Maintain all relevant logs and documentation. Use equipment and materials properly.
