About The Position

The EHS & Loss Prevention Specialist is responsible for monitoring workplace activities and promoting and ensuring employee compliance with all applicable safety and loss prevention regulations. This individual is responsible for working with the assigned safety leads in Canada and Mexico to drive unification of a safety-first culture across all of the organization.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related multi-unit Loss Prevention and/or retail work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience driving successful loss prevention, shortage control, accident reduction, and fraud prevention programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, coaching, and relationship-building skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or equivalent software.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight travel to domestic and international locations.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background, credit, and drug screening.
  • Fosters good coworker citizenship and contributes to a positive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Canadian (provincial) and Mexican health and safety regulations is a plus.
  • Experience with safety management software or loss prevention technology platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and coordinates activities related to Risk and Safety Management across all company locations.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Develops, conducts, and evaluates employee training programs on applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Reviews safety training content and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates on a regular basis.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Inspects safety equipment and recommends replacements or repairs as needed.
  • Consolidates and monitors forklift certification records for new hires.
  • Coordinates and administers company-wide/national environmental, safety and loss prevention programs and vendors, including but not limited to Safety Shoes, Prescription Safety Glasses, Security Alarms and Cameras, First Aid Kits, Fire Extinguisher Inspections, etc.
  • Drafts proposals for related, new and updated programs during the annual budget season.
  • Drafts, implements, and maintains internal safety and loss prevention policies and procedures, including disciplinary review policies; reviews and updates all policies on a regular basis or as regulatory requirements change.
  • Develops, improves, and maintains the organization-wide Safety Handbook; facilitates integration of the handbook for Canada and Mexico operations, incorporating country-specific regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts continual evaluation of department processes, methods, and activities to ensure the most effective use of resources and equipment.
  • Develops and maintains a District Manager Safety Scorecard to ensure all managers adhere to company policies, accident procedures, and loss prevention procedures; monitors the scorecard to track progress and escalates unresolved deficiencies to senior leadership.
  • Reviews accidents reported by employees and visitors; maintains the accident log and related records for all operations, including USA, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Maintains the OSHA 300 log and related reporting requirements, including annual OSHA 300A postings and submissions.
  • Conducts root cause analysis for safety and loss prevention violations; monitors corrective action implementation to ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Coordinates and administers all commercial insurance claims (Workers’ Compensation, Property, Auto, etc.) on an ongoing basis to ensure timely resolution for USA, Canada, and Mexico operations.
  • Supports commercial insurance renewals for USA, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Achieves shortage reduction goals for assigned stores, districts, and/or areas.
  • Proactively identifies, investigates, and resolves internal and external theft and fraud; works to minimize the financial impact of loss to the company and responds to emerging theft and fraud trends.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality throughout internal investigations; partners with store and district leadership and Human Resources to address associate behavior and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and corporate policies and guidelines; identifies opportunities to develop and implement improved practices to support business goals.
  • Develops and leads enterprise-wide Safety and Loss Prevention recognition programs and events to foster a safety-first culture.
  • Informs leadership of all matters that may adversely impact the company’s compliance posture.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, external auditors, and insurance carriers regarding EHS and loss prevention matters.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
