About The Position

AVL North America Corporate Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced EHS & Facilities Manager to lead environmental, health, safety, and facilities operations across our Michigan and California locations. This role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing sustainability initiatives while overseeing facility maintenance and contractor activities. The ideal candidate will serve as the organization’s EHS subject matter expert, leading strategy development, compliance programs, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with ISO 14001 and applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, MIOSHA, and California EPA). You will play a critical role in developing safety programs, conducting audits, managing environmental reporting, and leading incident investigations. In addition, this position oversees facilities operations, including budget management, vendor services, infrastructure standards, and site safety. You will collaborate cross-functionally to deliver training, drive employee engagement, and ensure safe and compliant operations across all sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field (required); advanced degree preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive EHS experience
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001, and applicable state regulations (MIOSHA, California EPA).
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading EHS programs and driving cultural change.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs aligned with ISO 14001 and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert on environmental and occupational safety matters across assigned locations.
  • Establish EHS goals, KPIs, and dashboards; monitor performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and accountability at all organizational levels.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory agencies including OSHA/MIOSHA, EPA, California EPA, and local authorities.
  • Oversee environmental permitting, reporting, and compliance programs (air, water, waste, hazardous materials).
  • Maintain required documentation including SARA Tier II reporting, SPCC plans, wastewater reporting, and hazardous waste management records.
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, external and internal (headquarters) auditors, and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement risk assessment processes for facilities, operations, and new equipment/processes.
  • Lead incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Oversee OSHA recordkeeping (including OSHA 300 logs) and required regulatory submissions.
  • Establish, maintain, and audit safety procedures, work instructions, and emergency response plans.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews across all sites.
  • Design and manage EHS training programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Partner with operational leadership to deliver specialized and role-specific safety training.
  • Lead employee engagement efforts including safety committees, drills, and awareness campaigns.
  • Manage environmental monitoring and reporting including energy, water, and waste metrics.
  • Drive sustainability and “green” initiatives aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Complete sustainability questionnaires by working with other functional departments.
  • Ensure effective hazardous material handling, storage, and disposal practices.
  • Manage facilities budget and related activities.
  • Manage contracted facility services (cleaning, lawn and snow removal, facility inspections, outsourced maintenance).
  • In conjunction with IT Department, manage access and security for all facilities.
  • Keep up the appearance and safety of the facility to ensure that they meet the needs of the organization and its employees.
  • Oversee contracted services impacting EHS performance (e.g., waste disposal, maintenance, inspections).
  • Ensure facility operations, maintenance, and infrastructure meet safety and environmental standards.
  • Manage safety requirements for contractors and employees working on customer sites, including construction safety compliance.
  • Maintain EHS management systems aligned with corporate/global standards.
  • Lead internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of findings.
  • Utilize data analytics to identify trends, mitigate risks, and improve EHS performance.
  • Manage EHS-related budgets and identify cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain emergency response readiness, including drills, equipment inspections, and plan updates.
  • Oversee specialized programs such as UST compliance, industrial hygiene monitoring, and PPE programs.
