About The Position

Under the supervision and guidance of the Mental Health/Disability Manager, the EHS Behavior Support Specialist will work to support effective classroom management and positive learning environments to address teacher and individual child needs.

Requirements

• Experience working with children utilizing behavior modification techniques
• Ability to work at multiple locations on any given day
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• FCCPC Birth to Five, or National CDA Infants/Toddlers, or Associates Degree (or higher) in child development, early childhood education, or a related field with 12 credits in early childhood education.
• Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time
• RBT certification (must be obtained within 1 year)
• 45 DCF hours and Part I and II exams (must be obtained within 1 year or as per DCF mandated timeline)

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge in Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards preferred
• Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) preferred
• Bilingual preferred

Responsibilities

• Work directly with teachers/staff to assist with minimizing challenging behaviors in the classroom by providing assistance in covering the classroom so that the teacher can directly implement strategies with children with special needs.
• Enhance the teacher/child interactions through training/coaching staff in working with children with challenging behaviors/special needs.
• Work directly with curriculum specialist to provide additional assistances to teachers with low class scores and aid in the classroom when teachers are addressing child challenging behaviors.
• Assist teachers/parents with developing more meaningful relationships with children to increase positive interactions that the child experiences.
• Work directly with curriculum specialist and education staff to assist with providing adjustments to classroom practices.
• Ensure that the Pyramid Model framework is being implemented in all classrooms. This position will also train staff to utilize the resources related to pyramid model in the classroom to enhance mental wellness of children.
• Provide workshops/trainings related to child development to staff and parents.
• Participate in the School Readiness Committee, Health Advisory Committee, and others to provide valuable information to the members regarding child development; in addition, participate in related activities to assist with achieving goals.
• Review and revise the reports necessary for the delivery of mental health and disability related services.
• Participate in meetings to provide additional support and information regarding updates of progress for children with special needs.
• Implement periodic observations or other appropriate strategies for program staff and parents to identify any new developmental or mental health concerns.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation in ChildPlus of children’s progress and follow up.
• Ensure all paperwork is completed and maintained in a confidential and timely manner.
• Administration has the authority to assign additional duties as seen fit for the benefit of the organization.
