About The Position

The EHR Informaticist serves as a critical liaison between clinical operations, academic programs, and information technology within the School of Dentistry patient clinics at Creighton University. This role combines the responsibilities of an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Administrator and a Healthcare Informaticist, ensuring that clinical systems effectively support patient care, education, compliance, and continuous improvement. The EHR Informaticist partners closely with dentists, dental hygienists, CRNAs, students, clinic administrators, and IT colleagues to optimize EHR workflows, maintain data integrity, and ensure patient records meet applicable regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards, including but not limited to HIPAA Privacy and Security & Institutional Standards. This role remains current on healthcare technology, clinical documentation practices, and informatics standards relevant to academic dental and clinical environments. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, or a related healthcare discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Experience supporting or administering electronic health records in a clinical environment

Nice To Haves

  • Nursing or related healthcare discipline.
  • Experience in academic healthcare or dental school clinical settings
  • Experience supporting clinical education workflows (students, faculty supervision, clinical instruction)
  • RN license or related clinical license (preferred)
  • Healthcare informatics or EHR related certifications (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary functional administrator for the School of Dentistry EHR, including system configuration, user access, templates, clinical documentation tools, workflows, and data standards.
  • Ensure the EHR effectively supports patient care, academic instruction, and clinical operations within SoD patient clinics.
  • Act as a clinical informatics partner to dentists, dental hygienists, CRNAs, faculty, and students by analyzing workflows, identifying optimization opportunities, and translating clinical needs into system enhancements.
  • Provide hands-on support and consultation within clinical environments as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with clinic administrators and compliance stakeholders to maintain accurate, complete, and compliant patient records.
  • Support adherence to HIPAA, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and institutional policies governing clinical documentation and healthcare data.
  • Stay current with emerging EHR technologies, informatics best practices, interoperability standards, and healthcare documentation trends.
  • Participate in testing, upgrades, and validation activities related to EHR changes and enhancements.
