About The Position

The ETSU College of Nursing, Office of Practice invites applications for an Electronic Health Records (EHR)/Billing Systems Specialist. This position supports the College of Nursing Office of Practice by maintaining and optimizing electronic health records, practice management, and billing systems across multiple clinical practice sites. This position provides user support, coordinates revenue cycle activities, monitors operational performance metrics, assists with system workflow improvements, and supports reporting, compliance, and billing operations to ensure efficient clinical and financial processes.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, Healthcare Administration, Medical Office Administration, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field OR two (2) years of relevant experience OR two (2) years of college (plus any additional required experience.)
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in healthcare billing and/or revenue cycle, dental billing and multi-specialty.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certification i.e. Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Biller (CPB) required by date of hire.
  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations, including medical and dental billing, coding principles, reimbursement methodologies, accounts receivable, payment posting, and payer requirements.
  • Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR), practice management systems, and healthcare billing applications.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of reporting tools and basic data analysis techniques used to support healthcare operations and performance monitoring.
  • Skill in reviewing and interpreting billing, coding, payment, and operational data to identify errors, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Skill in using EHR systems, billing software, Microsoft Excel, and other business applications to support reporting, workflow management, and operational activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, administrative, billing, Information Technology, and external partners.
  • Ability to interpret and apply billing regulations, payer requirements, organizational policies, and established procedures.
  • Ability to identify workflow issues, recommend process improvements, adapt to changing technologies and regulations, and provide user support and training.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality of patient and financial information, and serve as a reliable backup resource for system and billing operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) organizations.
  • Experience with electronic health records systems, i.e. EPIC.
  • Experience with Eaglesoft and/or Revenue Well dental practice platform systems.
