Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years or relevant manufacturing experience
  • 7+ years’ experience or involvement in EHS
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills required, including the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet and slide presentations required.
  • Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a 4-year degree in safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene or safety engineering.
  • A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered as alternate qualifications for education.
  • In addition to the educational requirements, 4-7 years of directly related experience in the EH&S field or in a related area.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Understand and use a variety of word processing, data base management, spreadsheet and presentation software to prepare reports, correspondence, documents and presentations.
  • Understand applicable laws, regulations and requirements as they relate to environmental, health and safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional (CPS), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is a plus.
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or other comparable certification desirable or ability to obtain such certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Involved in the design, development, coaching, training and administration of environmental, health and safety systems and programs with multi-site responsibility.
  • Serves as contact with federal, state and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensures that Company safety procedures are followed and that environmental and health safety standards are met by conducting frequent audits and ensuring all personnel are trained.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner; acts as a role model for all employees.
  • Assumes a leadership role to maintain a vibrant environmental, health and safety training program.
  • Coordinates and leads the Leadership Safety Council to establish and direct safety programs and activities.
  • Leads activities in plant behavior based safety program; monitors participation and provides guidance to employees.
  • Conducts training to ensure understanding of program goals and requirements.
  • Participates and leads employee improvement teams to emphasize safety, housekeeping, and waste/cost reduction; promotes programs and encourages employee participation.
  • Maintains accurate and complete Environmental, Health and Safety records in accordance with governing regulations and company policies.
  • Ensures that OSHA record-keeping and reporting requirements are met.
  • Oversees case management of Workers Compensation cases.
  • Works closely with insurance providers and adjustors to ensure timely and safe return to work for injured employees.
  • Conducts incident/accident investigations including “root cause analysis” for corrective action.
  • Trains management personnel on incident investigations and proper documentation.
  • Primary contact for OSHA inspections and incident/accident audits.
  • Measures Plant performance, benchmarking against best in class manufacturing and leadership role to create plans to improve performance.
  • Conducts EHS program training for all employees.
  • Develops and conducts new training programs as needed.
  • Participates in new hire orientation process by conducting required safety training.
  • Performs worksite and incident trend analysis to sustain a comprehensive system for hazard prevention and control.
  • Leads risk assessment activities to identify potential safety concerns.
  • Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental policy, procedures; reviews all work instructions to ensure that all safety issues are identified and properly documented.
  • Serves as primary contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies; interfaces between regulatory bodies and, corporate personnel, insurance representatives, legal and others in order to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Maintains SDS program and ensures that all employees are trained in their use.
  • Monitors and approves all chemicals that are used in the plant to ensure proper use, labeling and storage.
  • May be assigned responsibility for multiple sites.
  • Provides support and direction to all assigned sites.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
