EE Engineer

CDI Engineering Services•Beaumont, TX

About The Position

The Reliability Engineer – Electrical is responsible for building and sustaining the reliability of electrical assets across the Beaumont chemical facility. Assets include the power distribution system (utility tie, substations, transformers, switchgear, and MCCs), motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), UPS/DC systems, and protective relaying. The engineer collects and analyzes electrical failure and trip data, develops Pareto analyses to identify leading electrical bad actors, and leads the creation and execution of Reliability Action Plans to eliminate or significantly reduce unplanned downtime caused by electrical failures and power disturbances. As an integral member of the Maintenance team, this role leads development and implementation of the systems, processes, and tools needed for long-term electrical system reliability and safe, compliant electrical work practices. The position works across operations, maintenance, I&E, and engineering and serves as the primary decision-maker for electrical equipment reliability matters. The engineer prioritizes root cause failure analysis, deploys focused improvement methodologies, and provides technical input to support annual operating plan targets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Deep understanding of industrial power distribution, motors, VFDs, switchgear, and protective relaying.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical predictive maintenance, including infrared inspection, motor current signature analysis, insulation testing, partial discharge, and dissolved gas analysis.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E/70B, arc flash studies, and hazardous area classification.
  • Proficiency in RCM methodology, root cause failure analysis, and power system study software such as ETAP or SKM.
  • Proficiency in maintenance KPI analysis, including MTBF, MTTR, and OEE, and in analyzing electrical trip/event data.
  • Skill in Pareto analysis and data-driven prioritization.
  • Experience building and managing reliability programs and action plans.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on root causes.
  • Strong internal and external customer focus.
  • Effective communication across operations, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional improvement teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Controls/Power Distribution.
  • Experience in rotating equipment reliability.
  • Local residence within approximately 50 miles is preferred; no moving or travel allowance is offered.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Reliability Action Plans to eliminate or reduce unplanned downtime caused by electrical failures and power disturbances.
  • Analyze reliability KPIs and lead focused improvement efforts.
  • Develop and support the predictive maintenance program for electrical assets.
  • Establish asset standards and perform benchmarking.
  • Investigate electrical failures and prepare reports.
  • Collect and analyze electrical failure and trip data, and use Pareto analysis to identify priority electrical bad actors.
  • Lead development of systems, processes, and tools that support long-term electrical reliability and safe, compliant work practices.
  • Prioritize root cause failure analyses and deploy focused improvement methodologies.
  • Provide technical input to support annual operating plan targets.
  • Coordinate across operations, maintenance, I&E, and engineering; serve as the primary decision-maker for electrical equipment reliability matters.
