About The Position

The Educational Specialist will provide individual consultation and support to Manoa faculty on course design, learning outcomes, assessment strategies, accessibility, and effective use of instructional technology, primarily for online delivery. This role involves designing, developing, and leading faculty development workshops and training sessions using evidence-based pedagogy, inclusive teaching practices, and instructional technology integration. The specialist will collaborate with faculty to enhance curriculum materials, courses, and programs, and create/update faculty-facing job aids and templates. A key responsibility includes organizing and maintaining a centralized Manoa instructional design resource library website. The role also entails creating and editing basic multimedia content for faculty training and course development, such as video tutorials and screencasts. Maintaining current knowledge of best practices in adult learning, online course design, assessment, accessibility, and emerging educational technologies is crucial. The specialist will promote the effective use of educational technologies and digital tools, providing training and support. Collaboration with other Manoa units and instructional designers is essential to coordinate services and strengthen campus-wide collaboration. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in educational technology, instructional design, curriculum development, education or related field and three (3) year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities in instructional design or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of instructional design, online learning and/or higher education as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with higher education and online learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and use of spreadsheet software.
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, curriculum development, education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating professional development or training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual consultation and support to Manoa faculty on course design, learning outcomes, assessment strategies, accessibility, and effective use of instructional technology, primarily for online delivery.
  • Design, develop, and lead faculty development workshops and training sessions using evidence-based pedagogy, inclusive teaching practices, and instructional technology integration, tailored to UH Manoa's campus needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and provide feedback on curriculum materials, courses, and programs to support effective, inclusive, and accessible teaching and learning.
  • Create and update faculty-facing job aids and templates in collaboration with instructional design colleagues and campus partners.
  • Organize and maintain a centralized Manoa instructional design resource library website for faculty use.
  • Create and edit basic multimedia content to support faculty training and course development including short video tutorials, screencasts, simple graphics and other visual assets for faculty-facing resources.
  • Maintain current knowledge of research and best practices in teaching and learning for adult learners, online course design, learning outcomes assessment, accessibility and inclusive teaching practices, and emerging educational technologies and incorporate findings through presentations, workshops, and internal resources.
  • Promote effective use of educational technologies and digital tools (e.g., learning management systems, multimedia authoring and accessibility tools), and provide related training and support to faculty.
  • Collaborate with other Manoa units (e.g., libraries, academic departments, existing faculty-support offices) and instructional designers to coordinate instructional design services and strengthen collaboration across the campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
