About The Position

The Education Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of the Program’s educational curriculum. In collaboration with the Associate Director and the Program Coordinators, the Educational Specialist directly supervises the effective implementation and delivery of lessons, coaching & training of staff, direct oversight of the program’s instructional curriculum and assessment of program’s impact and effectiveness.

Requirements

Experience with curriculum development, project-based learning, Adult Education principles, literacy, ABE/GED and ESOL.
Proven experience as an Education Specialist or similar role
Relevant experience in teaching or educational settings for minimum of 2 years
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field or a Master’s degree in related field preferred.
Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
Ability to observe, coach, and develop staff.
Strong organization, communication, and writing skills.
Proficiency in educational technologies, such as MS Word and Google.
Knowledge of ABE/GED, ESOL curriculum.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Willingness to go above and beyond program mandates for the benefit of the participants.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.
Have a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.).

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Identifying areas of need for instructional staff training
Conducting staff training around lesson planning, curriculum development, literacy, and principles of Adult Education (ABE/ESOL)
Ensuring targets of the program are effectively implemented
Consulting with Associate Director and Program Coordinators to make training and professional development recommendations
Designing and delivering pre-program and ongoing professional development for instructors
Conducting classroom observations to provide guidance & supervision to instructional staff
Providing instructional coverage for classes, as needed, to support Instructors and Program Coordinators, ensuring continuity of instruction and maintaining a high-quality learning environment for participants
Assisting in the evaluation of participants’ academic progress
Supporting the development and implementation of the educational curriculum for Adult Education participants in collaboration with Instructors, Program Coordinators and the Associate Director
Supporting the development and refinement of DYCD workscopes, with a focus on creating and strengthening class syllabi and integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) components across all courses to ensure a comprehensive and student-centered instructional approach
Assisting Instructors in preparing lesson plans and activities
Ensuring that all educational activities and lesson plans are aligned to principles of Adult Education and the learning standards set forth in the contracts
Reviewing lesson plans and curriculum outlines developed by staff/instructors; providing feedback and support for implementation
Meeting regularly with staff/instructors, one-to-one and in groups, to provide guidance, support, and supervision around instructional and adult education development needs
Modeling of content and pedagogy in the classroom
Actively participating in the recruitment and selection of Program’s instructional staff
Collaborating with Program Director and Associate Director to develop curricular design
During the months of July and August, contingent on the availability of funds, the Educational Specialist will transition to a position within the Education Division that is comparable in duties and responsibilities
Performing other related tasks as deemed necessary by the Associate Director, Adult Education
