Reporting to the Director of Pupil Appraisal in the Student Support Unit, the Educational Diagnostician provides direct services to local schools, focusing on consultation/support of intervention services, evaluations as described by law, and in-service. The Educational Diagnostician also assists the Director of Pupil Appraisal in collecting and compiling data as needed for district, state, and federal reports. The role explains and interprets the intervention, referral, screening and evaluation process to parents, teachers, principals and school system personnel. It involves administering, interpreting, scoring, and recording findings of a variety of assessment/diagnostic instruments/tests, procuring necessary information pertinent to individual student case studies, and coordinating individual student evaluations within specified timelines. The Diagnostician participates in interpreting test results and planning appropriate programs for individual children, communicating findings and recommendations to parents and appropriate school personnel. This position acts as a Psycho-Educational Consultant to schools in developing preventive strategies for children needing special services, organizes and conducts in-service training with school personnel, and attends and participates in A/BIT meetings. It requires establishing working relationships with professionals and community agencies, observing student behaviors in classrooms or on campus, and consulting with teachers regarding professional recommendations and impressions. The Diagnostician consults with teachers, parents and appropriate persons regarding the significance of psychological data to the learning and/or behavioral process, functions as an evaluation coordinator for designated, referred students, and participates in special education eligibility determinations. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate case records on all children in accordance with legal and policy requirements, reviewing private vendor evaluations, monitoring system evaluations, and completing appropriate documentation. The role assists in developing and analyzing appropriate interventions for students, conducts and/or attends MDRs, and conducts functional behavioral assessments and develops/monitors behavior intervention plans for students as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Appraisal are also part of the position.
