About The Position

The Educational Developmental Assistant (EDA) serves as a lead trainer in the home setting by providing specialized training to individuals to maximize independence in a variety of skill areas which may include: self-care, meal preparation, dining, domestic, grocery shopping, utilizing appliances and kitchen equipment, communication, socialization, and money management. The EDA assists teachers in assessing individual strengths, needs, and preferences to support the development of effective training objectives and activities. They are responsible for monitoring instructional programs, ensuring proper implementation, and maintaining accurate documentation of progress. They are also responsible for providing input and recommendations to address ongoing progress and program development while keeping a record of time/data on work and/or skills performed by individuals. Additionally, the EDA position serves as a mentor for support staff in the home setting. The working hours for the Educational Developmental Assistant - Home position are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience working with students in an educational environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Considerable knowledge of fundamental principles, verbal and written instructions; instructional techniques/methodologies; data collection systems, and methods of habilitation.
  • Knowledge of practical application of behavioral programming techniques
  • Ability to work independently with minimal directives.
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with other staff.
  • Ability to evaluate client progress.
  • Ability to instruct; to establish rapport and relate to population served, their families and variety of service disciplines (occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist, dieticians, social workers, psychologist, nurses, medical professionals and home managers).
  • Ability to learn and follow OSHA and/or sanitation/safety guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and handling.
  • High school diploma.
  • Two years minimum experience providing direct services to people with developmental disabilities in health care or a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, Hearing, Repetitive Motions, Visual Acuity, & Inside and Outside Activities.
