About The Position
The Boiler Operator works in the Steam Plant, operating and maintaining steam boilers used for heating. This position may serve as a shift operator in medium-sized plants or as an assistant in larger, more complex facilities. The Steam Plant runs 24/7 year-round, and the operator works under the supervision of the Steam Plant Supervisor. Key duties include starting, shutting down, and monitoring boilers to ensure efficient operation. The operator performs water tests, adds necessary chemicals, and conducts routine maintenance. They also assist with more complex maintenance tasks as needed.
Requirements
- One year of progressive experience in the performance of tasks associated with mechanical maintenance or boiler operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools, as well as principles of mechanical maintenance.
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, boiler, or plumbing work in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Ability to use computers and maintenance software
- Ability to accurately record readings
- Ability to follow written or verbal instructions
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to perform heavy physical tasks when needed.
- Basic math skills
- Valid driver’s license
