About The Position

Caswell Developmental Center is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Cook to prepare nutritious meals for our residents. This position involves preparing food in accordance with approved menus and portion quantities established by dietary management and supervisors. The Cook must demonstrate proficiency in coordinating cooking times for multiple food items to ensure all meal components are completed and served on schedule. Work is routinely reviewed by a supervisor to ensure compliance with food safety standards, adherence to meal schedules, and effective minimization of food waste. The working hours for the Cook position within the Dietary department are from 8:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. About Caswell Developmental Center: Caswell Developmental Center, serving as North Carolina's Eastern Region resource center, provides specialized residential, programmatic, and support services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Requirements

  • Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots utilizing various pieces of equipment such as kettles, convection ovens, convection steamers, braising pans, mixers, food processors, and deep fryers.
  • Basic knowledge of the standard tools, methods, and practices utilized to maintain food safety.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to maintain high standards of sanitation as outlined in the NC Food Code.
  • Ability to properly alter food consistency to soft & bite sized, minced & moist, and pureed.
  • Ability to interpret and follow standard recipes and therapeutic modifications.
  • High school diploma or GED.
