About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking an Educational Consultant to join their VEI Business Office. This role involves supporting the development of instructional programs for individuals with disabilities, including those with autism. The consultant will create informational content and provide technical assistance and training to caregivers, providers, and educators. Requirements

  • Familiarity with state systems and associated programs serving individuals with disabilities, including the Department of Education and the Department of Disability and Aging.
  • Experience in developing instructional programs for youth and adults, or for those working with youth or adults in special education/programming or with specialized needs (e.g., developmental disabilities, autism).
  • Ability to develop informational content (e.g., tip sheets, video examples, curriculum modules) for caregivers, providers, and educators supporting autistic individuals in home, school, and community settings.
  • Experience in providing technical assistance and training opportunities, including web-based training and live workshops.
  • Intermediate Planning skills: Plans work to complete projects on time, handles multiple assignments simultaneously, is flexible to meet changing customer needs with minimal disruption, and uses time efficiently.
  • Intermediate Consulting skills: Influences others, manages relationships, and delivers results professionally based on specific expertise.
  • Intermediate Training skills: Provides ongoing educational and coaching opportunities grounded in evidence-based practices to individuals and teams of parents, community providers, and educators, tailoring presentations to audience needs.
  • Intermediate Adult Learning Theory knowledge: Understands principles and practices of providing instruction to adult learners and can direct their own learning.
  • Relevant Work Experience: 3 years
  • Education: Bachelor's degree

Responsibilities

  • Develop printable resources, web-based training modules, webinars, and communities of practice.
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct in-service training activities for community service providers (e.g., school instructors and personnel, early intervention providers, and agency staff) who serve students with disabilities, including autistic students.
  • Topics for training can include special education learning and behavior modalities, social skills, training, behavior management, IEP development, ABA strategies, and the use of visual supports.
  • Provide consultation to classroom teachers and service providers to help them develop appropriate goals and activities for individual students or clients.
  • Assist in improving the structure and organization of environments and designing specialized programs as needed.
  • Participate in team-wide quality improvement activities.
