About The Position

Student Disability Resources (SDR) is seeking part-time Educational Assistants for a student with a mobility impairment enrolled in courses during the Fall 2026 Semester. The individual(s) hired for this role will assist the student with classroom-based writing, materials organization, and access to lecture content. In addition, they may assist with coursework, assignments, and assessments outside of class as needed. The Educational Assistants work under the guidance of Student Disability Resources to facilitate student access and participation in academic activities. This position requires in-person attendance at scheduled class sessions on the Penn State University Park campus. All job-related training will be provided prior to the start of the semester. The individual hired for this role is not responsible for teaching course material or providing tutoring services.

Requirements

  • Able to schedule time outside of class to assist with coursework and assignments.
  • Able to work approximately 15 to 20 hours per week.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and note-taking skills.
  • Must be able to attend scheduled class sessions on the Penn State University Park campus.
  • Final schedules will be determined in consultation with SDR based on availability and course coverage needs.
  • Successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a scribe for the student, handwriting or typing content according to the student's exact instructions.
  • Read course-related content aloud as needed by the student.
  • Read assessment materials aloud as directed by SDR.
  • Locate and organize in-class materials (e.g., textbooks, PowerPoint slides, problem sets, graphics, handouts) for synchronous use during class.
  • Assist the student in accessing and organizing course materials.
  • Support communication with instructors before or after class as needed to obtain clarification on course content.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by SDR.
  • Schedule time outside of class to assist with coursework and assignments.

Benefits

  • Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour.
