About The Position

The Education Specialist will be responsible for facilitating engaging, age-appropriate tours and educational programming for diverse audiences, including students, adults, and mixed groups. This role involves delivering firsthand activities, managing museum open days and events, and representing Louisville Water at community outreach events. Additionally, the specialist will oversee front desk operations at the WaterWorks Museum, handle administrative tasks such as data entry and correspondence, and collaborate on marketing efforts for the Louisville Water Tower and WaterWorks Museum. The position requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, and involves working in various indoor and outdoor settings, as well as in the community.

Requirements

  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Experience in museums, classrooms, or educational facilities.
  • Experience with CRM platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs and technology.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Associate degree preferably in education, communications, history, or museum studies field.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate walking tours (approx. 1 hour in length) for students, adults, and mixed groups.
  • Deliver firsthand activities and educational programming, including field trips and special themed museum open days.
  • Communicate Louisville Water's history and mission clearly, creatively, and confidently to diverse audiences.
  • Serve as on-site point-of-contact during museum open days and events, ensuring a welcoming, accessible, and safe environment.
  • Assist with planning and executing public and private events at the WaterWorks Museum.
  • Provide setup and teardown support for education programs and events.
  • Represent Louisville Water at community events, delivering education experiences to children and adults.
  • Set-up displays and educational activities at community events.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to support mission-driven events.
  • Oversee front desk responsibilities at the WaterWorks Museum, including admissions, customer service, and point-of-sale.
  • Open and close the site, maintain guest records, and follow safety and emergency procedures.
  • Assist with general office tasks: data entry, spreadsheet management, contract tracking, and correspondence.
  • Collaborate with team members for marketing the Louisville Water Tower and WaterWorks Museum.
  • Contribute to the database for community education events, coordinating with other department members to track programming and evaluations.
