About The Position

The Nevada Department of Education is seeking to fill multiple Education Program Professional (EPP) positions. The first position is with the Gift and Talented Education (GATE) and Advanced Coursework in Carson City and Las Vegas. This role provides statewide leadership, administrative oversight, and technical expertise for programs serving high-ability and college-ready learners. The incumbent will be the primary subject matter expert (SME) for GATE and advanced coursework pathways (AP, IB, Dual Credit, Honors), responsible for designing, managing, and evaluating statewide initiatives to increase access and equity in advanced studies. This includes overseeing identification and service protocols for gifted pupils and managing the state-mandated approval process for Dual Credit courses. The position also involves providing expertise in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating statewide initiatives aligned with the Department’s strategic priorities, including the Statewide Plan for the Improvement of Pupils (STIP). Duties include providing technical assistance and professional learning for educators on differentiated instruction, curriculum acceleration, and college-level course integration. The incumbent will serve as a critical liaison with internal NDE divisions, LEAs, the Statewide Gifted and Talented Advisory Council, and national partners. Responsibilities include maintaining program goals, managing grant funding for advanced programs, and ensuring district-level advanced offerings meet state standards and regulatory compliance. The second position is with the Office of Teaching and Learning in Carson City only. This EPP provides leadership, technical assistance, consultation, and programmatic support for Nevada's Read by Grade 3 (RBG3) Program, aligning with state and federal requirements, the Nevada State Literacy Plan, and evidence-based literacy instruction. Support includes the development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of NDE's policies, guidance, resources, and professional learning related to early literacy, assessment, intervention, and instructional practices. Collaboration with internal offices, school districts, charter schools, regional professional development programs, institutions of higher education, and state and national organizations is expected to advance statewide literacy initiatives. The role involves serving as the OTL and NDE representative on committees, task forces, and advisory groups related to literacy, curriculum, assessment, instructional materials, and educator professional learning. The position provides structure and content expertise in reviewing instructional materials, grant administration, data-informed decision making, and other statewide initiatives supporting high-quality literacy instruction. Education Programs Directors, Supervisors, and Professionals assist and foster the growth of various education programs by providing technical assistance, training, and oversight.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, economics, education, English, math, psychology, science, sociology, or related field
One year of related experience applicable to the current vacancy.

Responsibilities

Assist and foster continuous improvement of educator preparation, recruitment, development, recognition, and retention programs.
Assist and foster the improvement and growth of assigned education programs; develop tools and resources used by local agencies to accomplish required or desired objectives.
Provide technical assistance to statewide councils, commissions, boards, and task forces by preparing agendas, meeting materials, and researching and presenting information.
Provide training, technical assistance, and outreach regarding education program legal requirements and best practices individually or in group sessions.
Collect, analyze, and report education program-related data; assist schools in meeting accountability and reporting requirements.
Coordinate the development of education standards for various roles, responsibilities, and/or subject areas; develop assessments and security/administration protocol to measure the performance of students, schools, and school districts regarding federal and State standards and indicators.
Oversee school compliance with federal and State requirements by monitoring and reviewing program documentation and conducting interviews.
Review federal and State education program-related statutes and regulations; draft language for proposed State regulations; coordinate adoption of proposed regulations; provide input on statutory language.
Review education program sub-grant or claims requests and recommend approval or denial; monitor and provide assistance regarding funds usage; manage sub-grant applications.
Collaborate with external partners including universities, research organizations, governmental agencies, and other entities to drive school improvement efforts statewide.
Create and facilitate internal and external stakeholder groups to provide high quality, research-based recommendations to the Department regarding educational matters.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Under limited supervision, incumbents perform duties described in the series concept and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate technical and administrative support staff.
