About The Position

The Environmental Services Department of the City of Springfield is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Education Outreach Coordinator. Working alongside and reporting to the Superintendent of Solid Waste, this position serves as a key member of the Education and Outreach leadership team dedicated to sharing to the community Springfield’s Integrated Solid Waste Management System which includes the Landfill, Recycle Centers, Yard Waste Recycle Center, Education and Outreach, and the Household Chemical Collection Center. The Education Outreach Coordinator will manage, direct, and develop the solid waste education programs, oversee professional educators, plan and participate in landfill and recycle center tours, participant in community events which are environmentally focused, and work alongside Public Information and Environmental Services support staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field.
  • Possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License in order to operate a vehicle for the purpose of completing job duties.
  • Must provide required liability coverage and personal vehicle.
  • Proof of United States Citizenship/Authorization to Work in the United States as established by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 is a condition of employment.
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required.
  • Must complete the City of Springfield on-line application in its entirety.
  • The candidate profile must include all employment history with accurate and complete information prior to submission.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years experience in providing educational programming to community, school, or similar audiences in the development/implementation of waste reduction, recycling, water quality protection, water conservation, air quality protection, and/or related environmental conservation.
  • A Master's Degree in Education or a related science field may be substituted for the experience requirement.
  • Current classroom teaching certification.
