About The Position

The Education Liaison (EL) ensures the optimum educational and developmental well-being of all non-school aged children and school aged children who are not participating in afterschool programming. Conducts the intake process with new families and provides the needed data to the Senior Manager of Education in order to determine if a child will be placed in one of the agency's afterschool programs. Children who are deemed to not need the additional intervention of afterschool services will remain on the case load of the EL. Assesses the needs of the children and their families they serve and communicates with other staff members, school personnel and outside agencies when necessary. Must be familiar with and abide by the General Program Guidelines and Grant requirements for each program of the Continuum of Care.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and a minimum of two years experience working with children.
  • Considerable knowledge of social, economic and health problems as they relate to at-risk families.
  • Working knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Homelessness Act.
  • Must be able to communicate and interact with children in positive ways.
  • Considerable knowledge of community and social agencies and resources.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to safely operate agency vehicles.
  • Ability to drive agency vehicles up to a 15 passenger van.
  • Valid drivers license with no more than three minor moving violations and/or accidents combined within the last three years, and no major moving violations in the past five years.

  • An extensive combination of experience working with children and other education may be acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform educational and developmental intakes, including school-based assessments within 7 days of entry into the program.
  • Maintain children's education files.
  • Assist parents with school enrollments, registration procedures, transportation and advocate for the children in the education system.
  • Provide all statistical and program reports as needed for appropriate grant outcomes by collecting and documenting necessary data.
  • Encourage and facilitate parental involvement with children's education programming whenever possible and inform parents of family responsibilities connected with the activities.
  • Track children's educational progress and meet with teachers and school administrators as needed.
  • Plan and implement developmental activities for the children participating in education programs including, but not limited to, enrichment activities and summer programming.
  • Coach parents in appropriate discipline techniques and developmental activities/needs when necessary with direction from appropriate staff.
  • Complete internal or external mental health referrals when symptoms or problematic behaviors are observed during children's activities or individual meetings.
  • Once the child is assessed by a clinician, collaborate with the clinician to implement appropriate supports and interventions during educational activities.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as needed or necessary.
  • Establish professional supportive relationships with all participants.
  • Fill-in for Beyond the Bell when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards as outlined in ForKids Customer CARE Manual.
  • Use agency resources (financial and non-financial) prudently.
  • Acknowledge and follow financial policies of the agency.
  • Accurately complete all required data reporting in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Participate in all scheduled data collection trainings.
  • Participate in development and fundraising activities as needed and requested (ex: meeting with donors, providing tours, attending fundraising events).
  • Regularly engage, support and collaborate with volunteers to provide a meaningful experience.
