About The Position

The Lima campus of The Ohio State University seeks a Lecturer in the Department of Education, starting Autumn 2026. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the teaching mission of The Ohio State University and experience teaching literacy. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in literacy education and language arts methods and will play an integral role in supporting preservice teachers’ development through coursework and supervised field experiences. This includes teaching key literacy courses such as Language Arts methods, TLTED 5468 – Foundations of Reading and Literacy and TLTED 5469 – Language and Word Study for All Learners, as well as supervision of preservice teachers. These courses emphasize explicit, systematic, and evidence-based instruction in phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and assessment-informed teaching practices.

Requirements

ODEW SOR training completed no later than August 30th.
Master’s degree (M.Ed. or equivalent) in Literacy Education, Reading, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field
Demonstrated expertise in literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading
Significant experience teaching reading/literacy in P–12 settings
Experience supporting or mentoring preservice teachers or novice educators
Knowledge of literacy assessment and data-informed instruction

Nice To Haves

Earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Literacy, Reading, or related field
Experience teaching and supervising in higher education
Familiarity with Ohio’s Reading and Literacy Core requirements and licensure expectations
Expertise in supporting struggling readers, including those with dyslexia
Experience integrating the arts (e.g., drama) into literacy instruction
Experience working with diverse and/or regional campus populations

Responsibilities

Teach literacy and language arts methods courses for preservice teachers
Prepare candidates in Science of Reading–aligned instruction.
Supervise and evaluate preservice teachers in field placements.
Collaborate with regional school partners to ensure high-quality clinical preparation
Model effective instructional practices, including differentiation and assessment-informed instruction
Contribute to program coordination, accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts
Engage in service to the program, campus, and college
