About The Position

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center education internships provide on-the-job experience in the exciting field of environmental education. Students will have an opportunity to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom and work with Wildflower Center Learning & Engagement staff on education programs in a public garden setting. This is a paid internship for two Learning and Engagement interns. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is seeking two Education Interns to work with the Learning and Engagement Team to help with providing educational opportunities for the general public that visit our facilities.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a college program in the areas of natural resources, conservation, botany, environmental education, education or related field.
  • Must have an interest in working with children, families and volunteers in an environmental education, native plant, or garden setting.
  • Interns will be required to perform moderate physical activity such as bending, lifting and pushing while working in an outdoor environment in hot and cold temperatures.
  • Interns must have reliable transportation (4801 La Crosse Avenue, Austin Texas 78739).
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Resume or CV, with relevant coursework and work history
  • College transcript, unofficial transcripts are acceptable
  • Letter of Interest (Cover Letter) stating your interest in environmental education, what you would like to gain through a Learning and Engagement internship, and why you would like to intern at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
  • List of three references with their contact information

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate K-2 and 3-5 Learning Stations for school groups Thursdays 9:00am-1:30pm.
  • Facilitate Homeschool programming ages 8-12 monthly Wednesdays 9:00am-noon.
  • Facilitate Sprouts for ages 3-5 bimonthly on Wednesdays 9:00-11:30am.
  • Develop age-appropriate activities for self-guided groups when they visit.
  • Meet and greet self-guided youth groups.
  • Research activity ideas for educational events.
  • Facilitate an Inspiration Station.
  • Assist Learning and Engagement staff with various duties including educational programming for the Luci and Ian Family Garden, special events that involve the Learning and Engagement Department, representing the Center at community outreach events.
  • Other duties as requested.
  • Interns will prepare a short presentation about their experience to Center staff.
