About The Position

Wiz Kids Camps are seasonal youth sports camps that offer athletic and academic enrichment to participants. This role involves teaching 1st-4th Grade Reading & Math, Engineering, Art, Spanish, Dance, Drama, Coding, Creative Writing, Mock Trial, Etiquette, Forensics & Lab Science, Financial Literacy, and Entrepreneurship in a makerspace setting.

Requirements

  • State of Illinois Teaching Certification (with a PEL endorsement in one of the following)
  • Self-contained general education from birth- grade 2
  • Self-contained general education from birth-grade 3
  • Elementary Education Grades 1-6
  • Elementary Education Kindergarten-Grade 9
  • Middle Grades 5-8 (Subject-specific courses)

Responsibilities

  • Work with the instructional design team to execute engaging lessons tailored for students in a makerspace setting.
  • Collaborate with the makerspace design team to integrate technology, crafting, and design aspects into projects.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive environment where students can explore and express their creativity.
  • Guide students through the design process, encouraging them to use various materials and tools available in the makerspace to bring their ideas to life.
  • Lead and supervise students during hands-on activities, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Document and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Execute project based assessments and outcome based directives.
  • Present subject matter to students using best practices.
  • Teach rules of conduct and maintain order in the classroom.
  • Discuss student's academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  • Keep attendance as required by the camp.
  • Assume responsibility for the care of materials, equipment and facilities.
  • Assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students and be committed to their care.
  • Function as a substitute instructor for other Wiz Kids academic roles.
  • Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students.
  • Manage students when scheduled to attend field trips and/or campus tours.
  • Encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students.
  • Utilize a variety of appropriate materials and hands-on resources to instruct students in various content areas.
  • Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (Subsection (a)(6) of 325 ILCS 5-4).
  • Additional duties as contracted.
