Education Floater Full-Time
About The Position
Under the supervision of the Curriculum Specialist, the EHS Education Floater (full-time) will provide responsive care, effective teaching, and an organized learning environment that promotes the health, development, and children’s skill growth aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five (HSELOF), including for children with disabilities. Education Floaters will emphasize nurturing and responsive practices, interactions, and environments that foster trust and emotional security; are communication and language rich; promote social, emotional, behavioral, and language development; and support all children’s engagement in learning experiences and activities. The Education Floater will assist the Curriculum Specialist and teaching teams when needed to enter data into the Child Plus and Teaching Strategies (GOLD) database, perform clerical tasks, and assist with child assessments, parent-teacher conferences, and home visits. They will also participate in center and classroom activities, trainings, workshops, and meetings, and support teaching staff with children who demonstrate challenging behaviors. The Education Floater will maintain communication with the Curriculum Specialist when she is not at the center and perform other duties as required. The Education Floater will provide support to the teaching staff during an absence from the classroom, including both long-term and short-term leave when assigned by the Curriculum Specialist. They will assist with the daily care and educational opportunities for children ages 0-3, assist in the afterschool program when necessary, and help establish daily routines. Additionally, they will assist in maintaining accurate USDA meal counts, promote relational learning, integrate intentional movement and physical activity, assist in implementing snack and meal times, and help implement the Creative Curriculum and additional curricular enhancements. Under supervision, they will assist the teaching team in required screening and assessment instruments, maintain attendance records, ascertain child’s diapering, restroom usage, and feeding schedules, encourage children to feed themselves, change diapers, and assist in potty training. They will also assist with health care needs, provide stimulating activities and toys for infants and toddlers, talk and interact with children throughout the day, value and affirm each child and family’s cultural, linguistic, ethnic, and family structure, and maintain safe, best practices hygienic feeding and diapering practices. They will maintain and protect confidentiality and respect the privacy of others. When covering a classroom, they will assist in conducting and participating in home visits, encourage parents to participate in activities, attend assigned staff meetings and trainings, and assist in conducting parent-teacher conferences. The Education Floater will be responsible for maintaining ratio in the classroom when covering, cover staff breaks, and assist with performing clerical tasks. Education Floaters will engage in practices that support the development of dual language learners and will have a positive, affectionate, and responsive attitude towards all families, parents, and other primary caregivers. They will include teaching practices that focus on the development of the home language and provide language experiences that expose the child to English. Additional duties may be assigned as needed for the benefit of the agency.
Requirements
- National CDA in Infant/Toddler or higher.
- Degree in Early Childhood Education or area out of field with 12 early childhood college credits preferred.
- 45 hours DCF training must be completed including the corresponding exams within DCF allotted timeframe.
- Must be able to effectively communicate information and ideas both orally and in writing.
- Ability to lift children and objects up to 40 lbs.
- Intermediate computer skills, internet and e-mail.
- Able to stand and sit for extended periods.

- Ascertain child’s diapering, restroom usage, and feeding schedule.
- Encourage children to feed themselves.
- Change diapers and underpants as needed.
- Assist in the potty training of toddlers and preschoolers.
- Assist in health care needs such as washing hands and brushing teeth.
- Provide infants and toddlers with stimulating activities and toys.
- Talk to and interact with children throughout the day.
