About The Position

This is a contractual position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • One year of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's of Arts or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working in a correctional setting or with returning citizens.
  • One (1) year of experience in education-related services, community service, social service, or human relations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Employment and Education Plans for incarcerated and recently released students.
  • Coordinate with correctional institution staff, collateral agencies, and community-based organizations to advocate for participant resources and services and to disseminate information.
  • Identify resources that address individual needs such as personal strengths, conflict resolution, self-esteem enhancements, life skills, daily decision-making, and other prison-to-community life stability and developmental skills.
  • Provide post-release follow-up and wrap-around services.
  • Compile statistical data by keeping detailed records relating to Higher Education and Occupational training programs as a reporting requirement for the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Grant and DPSCS Education and Employment project.
  • Frequent use of computer technology and software for data retention and tracking.
  • Work with students on a learning management system to support student success.
  • Work with DPSCS administrative staff to complete Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual reports.
  • Assist in the creation of marketing tools, implementation of policies and procedures, and modification of services provided.
  • Ensures program and grant compliance.
  • Identify and monitor potential at-risk participants.
  • Coordinate and oversee student and community engagement.
  • Provide support services to the Director of Education with administrative duties connected to the new program.
