About The Position

Primarily responsible for successfully evaluating the organization’s training needs and to develop and direct programs for staff education and training to support quality and positive patient outcomes. Collaborates and consults with management and staff to assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational strategies for all Nursing Divisions. Functions as a change agent to develop and implement programs that support current best practices in healthcare.

Requirements

  • Five years of nursing and acute care experience required.
  • Graduate of a state accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, required to obtain within 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assess educational needs of nursing staff based on quality improvement and risk management data, innovations in clinical care delivery and technology, regulatory requirements, the performance goals of the facility, and feedback from staff and management.
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Nurse Exec team, annual education plans and retention strategies, based upon the assessment of needs of the nursing staff, to include orientation of new employees, competency assessment, continuing education requirements, and education response to quality management information.
  • Serves as the primary administrator for the learning management system (LMS). Including assigning regulatory online learning, tracking completions, creating new courses and content and oversight for the entire system.
  • Coordinates, tracks, and plans for BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, ATLS and any other certifications.
  • Assist department directors in planning and Implementing education plan and competencies to include appropriate utilization of staff resources and assistance to departments in developing unit-based education and competency programs.
  • In collaboration with the Nurse Directors, Quality Director and CNO, evaluates educational needs of departments and plans/implements educational process.
  • Collaborates with colleges and coordinates nursing leaders to provide clinicals and preceptors for student nurses.
  • Serve as SMCH Education Director for Iowa Board of Nursing and attend or coordinate all sponsored CEU educational sessions.
  • Coordinates the development and delivery of continuing education programs in compliance with Iowa Board of Nursing (IBON) provider requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with IBON providership requirements.
  • Assists with special projects to improve the quality of care across the continuum of care and provides educational information to inform staff of the newest evidence-based practice by supporting use of evidence-based practice and incorporates into daily practice.
  • Solicits staff participation and encourages staff involvement in shared decision-making regarding education and competency plan.
  • Evaluate the education programs on an ongoing basis, including how education plan was implemented as well as the effect of education on the performance of the entire organization (quality and facility outcomes).
  • Leads the coordination and evaluation of the Nurse orientation process for new staff and preceptor programs.
  • Able to assess needs of new staff and assists in meeting their orientation needs.
  • Facilitates learner development by using principals of adult learning and instructional design that actively involve the learner.
  • Selects the most appropriate method of teaching to accommodate content, learning styles, and the learning environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and accreditation standards.
