About The Position

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to evaluate the compliance of all Certification Training programs in the state by interpretation and application of the Nurse Practice Act to determine if required teaching-learning strategies are being implemented in order to prepare students to be a successful certificate holder and meet the standards that protect the public. This position will also provide recommendations to training programs and take appropriate actions when standards are not being met. This is a major component that contributes to ensuring that graduates of certificate training programs are prepared to care for the citizens of Maryland.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of experience as a Registered Nurse including one year of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.
  • A current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity for the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
  • Employees assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with understanding of the role of the nursing education program accreditation bodies: The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), The Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing (ACEN), The National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education (NLN CNEA).
  • Experience with understanding how nursing accreditation differs from nursing education program Code of Maryland Regulations.
