About The Position

The Education Coach will provide consultation, coaching, mentoring, and training to Head Start staff, to support school readiness. The Education Coach will use a Practice-Based Coaching model in conjunction with a research-based curriculum to ensure alignment with school readiness goals, Texas Pre-K Guidelines, and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework. Various strategies, including side-by-side coaching, co-teaching, instructional planning, and reflective feedback, will be used with teaching staff. The Education Coach will collaborate with the Education Coordinator to develop and revise policies, procedures, and service plans per agency policies and Head Start Program Performance Standards, National Association for the Education of Young Children Standards (NAEYC), and licensing Minimum Standards. Traveling between Family Service sites is a requirement for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
  • Three years of experience teaching in an early childhood education program required.
  • Knowledge of research-based early childhood education curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies.
  • A strong understanding of early childhood screenings and assessments.
  • Understanding of Texas Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines, Head Start Child Outcomes, NAEYC guidelines, and Child Care Licensing Standards
  • Working knowledge of technology (Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, videotaping, uploading, etc.)
  • Access to transportation for travel between sites and the ability to occasionally travel for training and conferences.
  • State of Texas vehicle operator’s license and proof of liability insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
  • Experience training or coaching adults preferred.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (read, write, speak) desirable.
  • Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) reliable observer certification in Infant, Toddler, and Pre-K within six months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide training, mentoring, and coaching in all areas of a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom.
  • Devote attention, ensure compliance, and insert innovative process in the area of quality improvement of early childcare centers.
  • Provide evaluations, observations, and assessments to teachers.
  • Support teachers in analyzing and using data collected from Child Plus and other databases.
  • Research literature and existing local, state, and national programs to obtain information on best practices, new training, and education methods, and incorporate these findings in coaching teaching staff.
  • Use required coaching and instructional tools such as Curriculum Fidelity Checklist and Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observation to monitor teacher’s progress and set goals for improvement.
  • Collaborate with other city-wide Early/Head Start coaches to provide opportunities for enhancement, participation, discussion, and education matters relevant to coaching.
  • Assist in educating target groups, policymakers, leadership, and the community regarding specialized education, awareness, and program issues.
  • Coordinate and implement presentations and workshops, community fairs, seminars, and other events giving high visibility to the program and its goals.
  • Assist, as necessary, in recruiting and interviewing teaching staff.
  • Assist in developing procedures and establishing a review process in conjunction with program staff.
  • Use sound management practices to ensure requirements of program-related contracts and grants are met on an ongoing basis.
  • During situations of extreme need, assist centers in ensuring adequate staffing ratios in the classroom.
  • Attend all agency, program, and staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Maintain good relationships with clients and stakeholders (including current and potential clients, community, and co-workers).
  • Provide culturally sensitive customer service and present a positive image of the agency in all community and stakeholder interactions.
  • Maintain a working environment that encourages mutual respect, promotes respectful and congenial relationships between employees, and is free from all forms of harassment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned per the agency’s “team” philosophy.
