About The Position

This position is for a Summer ESY (Extended School Year) Education Associate Level II at Perry Local Schools. The role involves fostering positive relationships with individual students, supporting their behavior, adaptive, and academic needs according to their IEP and learning plans. The associate will assist students in general education classrooms and other school environments. Specific duties may include assisting students with personal hygiene tasks such as washing, toileting, diapering, dressing, grooming, and other related activities. The role may also involve assisting with student transportation, positioning and repositioning students using medical equipment, wheelchairs, braces, and orthopedic equipment, and ensuring the safe use of such equipment. Additionally, the associate will assist with loading and unloading students from various transportation methods and ensure student health and safety by adhering to established practices and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Educational Aide Permit - License can be applied for after a license offering but must be obtained prior to a start date of employment.
  • Prior successful experience working with students with low incidence disabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Satisfy all statutory provisions governing submission of all pre-employment requirements including a criminal record background check and recommendation of prior employer(s).

Responsibilities

  • Foster positive relationships with individual students
  • Support student behavior, adaptive and academic needs in accordance with the student's schedule, IEP and learning plans
  • Support students learning in the general education classrooms and other school environments
  • Assist students with washing, toileting (may include lifting on and off toilet), diapering, dressing and undressing, grooming and other activities necessary for maintaining personal hygiene and neatness
  • Assist with the transportation of students; position and reposition students requiring the use of medical equipment, wheelchairs, braces, and other orthopedic equipment; make minor adjustments on lifting and other equipment as necessary; assure the safe use and operation of wheelchairs, prosthetic devices and other equipment
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of students on and from buses, automobiles, wheelchairs
  • Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures
