About The Position

Under the direction of the Natural Resources Manager, the Education & Outreach Supervisor is responsible for supervising the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of educational and outreach programs targeting schools, community organizations, neighborhood associations and the general citizenry to increase participation and public awareness of the natural resources managed by the City. Supervises assigned staff of the Natural Resources Division. The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

Requirements

Must have the ability to develop creative, innovative educational programs and ideas.
Must have knowledge of educational and informational presentation techniques for a wide variety of audiences.
Must have knowledge of newsletter, advertisement, brochure, press release and marketing development techniques.
Proficiency in the use of computers and related equipment, hardware and software applicable to area of assignment, specifically Microsoft Word, Power Point, Publisher, Access and Excel, as well as the most current Creative Suite from Adobe including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
Knowledge of City management policies and procedures.
Skill in effective English oral and written communication and public speaking.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and MVR check.
Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of research, analysis, and application techniques for grant programs and funding preferred.
Skill in effective Spanish oral and written communication skills a plus.

Responsibilities

Counsels, disciplines, recruits, trains, oversees, coordinates, schedules and evaluates assigned staff, contractors and volunteers.
Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned activities and programs; recommends and administers divisional policies and procedures.
Develops educational programs, activities and presentations to assure ongoing support, promotion and marketing of natural resources and community outreach/involvement programs.
Oversees the activities associated with the planning and development of outreach programs.
Provides expertise to community organizations to encourage program development and public support for the City's natural resources programs.
Coordinates, organizes, promotes and attends training workshops.
Recruits teachers for participation in youth natural resources education programs.
Researches and develops grant opportunities.
Responsible for writing and submitting applications for funding; administers grants.
Maintains, prepares and submits records for monthly and quarterly reports as well as local and state reports.
Assists Natural Resources Manager in the development of budgets.
Creates and maintains a database of contacts from campus locations, civic and field-related organizations and commercial entities.
Coordinates and supervises volunteers, works with Special Projects Coordinator to establish a volunteer base to assist in the development of training materials and educational outreach/community involvement programs.
Recruits, trains, and supervises work activities of volunteers as necessary to meet established goals.
May be required to attend City events and meetings.
May be required to work extended hours, evenings and weekends.
Participates in local, regional, and national organizations focused on natural resources and environmental programs.
Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, special events and training.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
