About The Position

Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley National Park is seeking an EDR Cook to prepare daily meals for employees. This role is crucial in maintaining a welcoming, safe, and environmentally responsible resort that provides accommodations and services within Death Valley National Park. The cook will be responsible for ensuring food quality, safety standards, and kitchen organization, contributing to a positive employee dining experience. POWDR operates Stovepipe Wells under a concession contract with the National Park Service.

Requirements

  • Previous cooking experience in a commercial kitchen preferred
  • Ability to prepare meals in high-volume settings
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hot kitchen environment
  • Maintain CA Food Handler Card

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily meals for employees based on planned menus and available inventory.
  • Ensure food is cooked, presented, and held according to company and health standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, storage areas, and service line.
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and minimize waste.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and HACCP guidelines.
  • Assist with receiving, labeling, and storing deliveries properly.
  • Maintain accurate prep lists and communicate product needs to management.
  • Support menu planning by providing feedback on popular items and cost control.
  • Ensure all equipment is used safely and report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Provide a positive and respectful environment for all employees using the dining room.
  • Take direction from Kitchen Manager and F&B Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, visitors, servers and coworkers.
  • Know all menu and drink items, ingredients, processes, documentation and labelling practices.
  • Ensure the work areas are clean and sanitized, good housekeeping, and proper labelling, and storage in line with CA Food Handling Safety Standards.
  • Maintain CA Food Handler Card and follow set practices in the kitchen environment.
  • Open to education/training, coaching and learning on a continuous basis to improve.
  • Stock and organize supplies, refrigerated and frozen items in a maintained, organized environment.
  • Complete all food safety checks, handwashing, cleaning, sanitizing protocols, wears gloves, in line with food safety.
  • Complete all food safety training to ensure compliance.
  • Exercise diligence in food safety processes and participate in audits and corrective actions as directed by leadership.
  • When ill, does not work and reports illness to the management team.
  • Answer server and guests’ questions via the servers, is friendly and accommodating.
  • Be dressed for work in a clean, pressed and complete uniform with nametag.
  • Wear clean, proper footwear.
  • Be helpful and professional with coworkers, respectfully starting and ending shifts on time, and leaving the stations clean, organized, sanitized and prepared for the following shift.
  • Understand and follow all ESQ procedures that relate to your job duties.
  • Work with a “safety-first” attitude.
  • Minimize your impact on the environment when at work and living onsite.
  • Treat our customers, co-workers, leadership teams, all internal guests with respect and a hospitable service atmosphere must be projected at all times.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available in the Employee Handbook).
  • Be trained in the proper use and care of assigned PPE.
  • Report defective, damaged or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your Manager.
