This is a 3-month contract assignment in California for an EDM Machinist. The role involves setting up and operating both wire and sinker CNC EDMs. These machines operate on an XY plane with a rotary axis, and the machinist will be responsible for two machines simultaneously. The setup process includes replacing the wire spool, setting up electrodes, and ensuring the proper functioning of the deionized water system. The metals worked with include 440 grade stainless steel, beryllium copper, and other stainless grades, with bar diameters ranging from 4mm to 1 inch. The parts are components for electro-hydraulic pressure & flow control valves, which are very small (smallest part diameter of .080" and length of 1/8") with very small holes (down to .004" diameter). The parts are delicate, and the machining tools are also delicate, requiring careful handling. Quality inspection is minimal as parts are mostly rectangular, but a Tool Maker's Scope may be used to verify slot edges.
