About The Position

The Sourcebooks Outreach Fellowship Editorial Trainees will participate in a unique, fully remote, stipend-paid training program designed to provide a broad overview of the day-to-day work of an acquisitions editor. The program combines key editorial skills with hands-on experience, guiding trainees through the editorial process and offering the opportunity to work on a live project with the Editorial Team. The training program runs from September 28th, 2026, to December 11th, 2026, with a break for Thanksgiving week. It is a 10-week remote, temporary program that includes 6 weeks in a Sandbox environment exploring editorial work, 2 weeks of developmental editing mentorship, and 2 weeks focused on professional development. Participants must reside in the United States and will receive a $1,000 stipend upon successful completion.

Requirements

Must reside in the United States.
Available to participate remotely 15-20 hours per week (four scheduled online hours on Monday 9am-12pm CST and Friday mornings 9am-10am CST, and 10-15 flexible offline hours).
Demonstrable project management and creative skills gained from previous employment, community engagement, and general life experience.
Submit a resume and cover letter answering specific questions about interest in the program and the importance of accessibility in publishing.

Nice To Haves

Previous publishing experience is not required.
Demonstrated knowledge of books and the overall book community.
Active in the book community.
Familiar with concepts of genre, recent competitive works, marketing vs. book jacket copy, etc.
