About The Position

This is not a remote position. As a production assistant, you are part of a team that embraces the mission of producing K–12 educational materials with a biblical worldview for Christian schools and homeschools. Your primary role is to perform editorial production tasks as assigned, including proofreading textbooks and digital resources. You may be asked to work either independently or under the direction of an editor. Your work increases the value of the products by ensuring their conformity to BJU Press style and departmental guidelines and lowers production costs through efficiency and attentiveness. After successful onboarding, an employee in this position may apply for a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in English grammar, mechanics, and other characteristics of good writing
  • An eye for attractive and user-friendly layout and design
  • Proficiency in applying the Chicago Manual of Style and other reference sources (can be learned on the job)
  • Ability to follow established procedures
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to stay focused and work efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Computer aptitude (file management; experience working with documents in the cloud or online)
  • Acceptable performance on the BJU Press editorial test
  • Microsoft Office, Teams, Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Bachelor's degree with 1-2 YOE
  • Must be a born-again Christian who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must agree with and affirm the Bob Jones University creed, mission, and core biblical doctrines.
  • Employees are expected to maintain a conservative lifestyle and support the group’s positions on issues such as beverage alcohol and addictive substances, creation, marriage and human sexuality and the sanctity of life.
  • Employees are to be active members of a local Bible-believing church which holds orthodox theology.
  • Must be committed to providing students an excellent, world-class education from a biblical worldview that prepares them for a lifetime of service for Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the editing of ancillary BJU Press products as assigned; may include developmental editing, copyediting, and production editing
  • Proofread BJU Press print and digital products
  • Learn and review BJU Press style, policies, and procedures; suggest updates or improvements to the editorial production specialist or editorial manager as appropriate
  • Uphold the BJU Press brand image and publishing standards
  • Complete special projects as assigned
