The New Republic is hiring an Editorial Intern for a six-month, full-time position running from January 4, 2027, through July 2, 2027. The role pays $15–$20.40 per hour and is during regular business hours. The intern reports to the executive editor and supports the editorial team through copyediting, fact-checking, transcription, administrative work, and writing for the website. Training will be provided, so applicants do not need experience in every area. The ideal candidate follows the news, cares deeply about language and accuracy, is well organized, and pays close attention to detail. Journalism experience, whether educational or professional, is preferred. The intern will work alongside the chief copy editor to copyedit web articles and/or newsletters daily, collaborate with web editors to fact-check pieces intermittently, and support web editors with freelancer paperwork and the editorial calendar. As time and ability allow, the intern will write for TNR’s breaking news feed. Applicants should submit a résumé and a cover letter tailored to The New Republic that explains their interest and understanding of its work; writing samples may be linked in the cover letter or résumé. Finalists will be asked to take a copy-editing test.
