Editorial Director, Global Communications

AmplitudeSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

Amplitude is entering its next phase of growth — where AI, product innovation, and customer impact collide — and we're looking for a Global Editorial Director to bring that story to the world. Reporting to the VP of Brand & Communications, this is a senior, hands-on role that will own and shape the newsroom operation we are building. The newsroom is our way to drive speed, editorial judgment, and high-quality content — while maintaining more traditional communications responsibilities like earned media, executive thought leadership, and narrative development. If you have strong news and editorial instincts and are energized by building something new, doing some of your best creative work, and leading a team, this is the right environment.

Requirements

  • A sharp, confident, AI-savvy storyteller who can flex from long-form narratives to punchy social posts without losing voice or clarity.
  • 10–12+ years in communications, journalism, or editorial leadership, with deep technology experience and a fresh, integrated view of the comms function — rather than one based on isolated tactics.
  • Write exceptionally well and do it regularly. Also have experience developing executive voices: you've written for founders or C-suite leaders, not just advised them on messaging.
  • Have built or managed editorial operations with real accountability for quality, cadence, and output, and can make editorial calls quickly without needing consensus.
  • Use AI tools actively in your own work and have opinions about where they help and where they fall short.
  • Comfortable advising senior executives in a fast-moving environment and can confidently push thinking while staying collaborative and low-ego.
  • Thrive in lean, low-bureaucracy settings where you own outcomes, make smart calls with imperfect information, and bias toward experiments over committees.
  • Love building new concepts, campaigns, and formats — from AI-native storytelling and creator collaborations to social-led launches and content series.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve Amplitude's global communications strategy. Set the narrative direction across press, executive communications, and owned channels. Ensure Amplitude has a clear, consistent point of view in the market and that it shows up across multiple formats and audiences.
  • Lead earned media and rapid response. Drive PR strategy for product launches, company milestones, and market moments. Develop relationships with the journalists and publications that matter for our category. Build the capability to respond to breaking news and industry shifts quickly, with a real point of view rather than a reactive statement.
  • Build executive and brand thought leadership. Partner closely with the CEO and other senior leaders to craft clear POVs on AI and the future of analytics. Turn those into media, social, and other moments that feel human, distinctive, and repeatable.
  • Strengthen social media channels. Oversee Amplitude's global social media strategy, including a strong emphasis on executive presence and building social-first campaigns, creator and partner programs, and repeatable formats that drive relevance, credibility, and conversation.
  • Lead AI-forward communications and experimentation. Translate complex AI capabilities into simple, credible narratives. Design and champion AI-powered workflows across comms and social — research, drafting, measurement, listening — enabling the team to move faster while maintaining quality and brand voice.
  • Build and run an editorial operation. Establish the systems, cadence, and standards that allow the team to produce integrated content — written, video, social — at the pace the business requires. Run a daily editorial standup. Maintain a forward-looking agenda. Make decisions in the room rather than in a follow-up approval chain.
  • Manage and challenge external partners. Oversee U.S. and international PR and social agencies as true extensions of the team. Set clear strategies, goals, and metrics; push for creative, AI-savvy ideas; and cut anything that doesn't move the needle.
  • Support high-stakes internal and issues communications. Partner with people and exec teams on high-impact internal moments and crisis communications. Bring calm judgment, clear storytelling, and a bias toward action when it matters most.
