About The Position

Questex is seeking an Editor to join the Fierce Life Sciences & Healthcare Team. This role will support daily coverage, long-form journalism, and broader editorial strategy across Fierce Biotech and Fierce Pharma. The position involves significant editing of various content types, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial standards. The editor will collaborate with senior staff on content planning and strategy, help refine story ideas, and identify coverage gaps. Light writing is also required, including news stories, analysis, and event coverage. The role includes contributing to 'The Top Line' podcast and representing the brands on stage and screen, such as moderating panels and participating in interviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related writing-intense field.
  • At least five years of editing experience, ideally in pharma, biotech, healthcare, business journalism, or another specialized B2B editorial environment.
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to edit quickly and thoughtfully across breaking news, daily stories, features, special reports, and more complex enterprise pieces.
  • Strong understanding of pharma and biotech, or demonstrated ability to quickly master complex scientific, regulatory, clinical, and business topics.
  • Excellent line-editing, structural editing, headline-writing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to help writers sharpen story angles, improve sourcing, strengthen analysis, and produce clear, authoritative coverage for a professional audience.
  • Comfortable writing when needed, including quick-turn news stories, event coverage, and analysis.
  • Experience working in a digital publishing environment and comfort with content management systems, newsletters, and audience engagement tools.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working closely with senior editors, reporters, the editor-in-chief, and cross-functional teams, including events, marketing, and audience development.
  • Comfortable appearing on podcasts, video interviews, and live events.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative, calm under deadline pressure, and able to exercise sound editorial judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily coverage, long-form journalism, and broader editorial strategy across Fierce Biotech and Fierce Pharma.
  • Edit daily news stories, feature stories, in-depth reported pieces, special reports, conference coverage, and other editorial projects.
  • Ensure stories are accurate, clear, engaging, well-sourced, and aligned with Fierce’s editorial standards, voice, and audience expectations.
  • Work with senior editors, writers, and the editor-in-chief on story planning, daily coverage priorities, editorial calendars, special reports, newsletters, conference coverage, and larger content initiatives.
  • Refine story ideas, sharpen angles, identify coverage gaps, and support the team in producing timely, high-quality journalism.
  • Write news stories, analysis pieces, event coverage, or other content when needed.
  • Contribute to 'The Top Line' podcast by developing episode ideas, preparing questions, participating in interviews, or appearing on the podcast.
  • Represent the brands on stage and screen, including moderating panels, participating in video interviews, and supporting editorial programming tied to Fierce events.
  • Manage multiple priorities across two fast-moving editorial brands.
  • Exercise sound editorial judgment under deadline pressure.
