About The Position

Farmscape is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented gardener to maintain edible gardens, fruit trees, and ornamental landscapes at residential properties throughout Los Angeles. This is a mobile, route-based garden maintenance position. Most workdays involve traveling between several client properties and completing scheduled garden and landscape services, sometimes independently and sometimes alongside another gardener. Employees use a reliable personal vehicle to travel between properties and receive mileage reimbursement based on annual IRS rates. Travel between assigned work locations during the workday is paid working time.

Requirements

  • At least one year of professional experience in landscaping, gardening, farming, horticulture, grounds maintenance, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of plant care, including planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, weeding, mulching, and soil preparation.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to manage a daily route independently after training.
  • Ability to perform sustained physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including bending, kneeling, using hand tools, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience maintaining residential landscapes, fine gardens, edible gardens, or fruit trees.
  • Familiarity with Southern California plants and common plant-health, pest, disease, and irrigation issues.
  • Experience working independently on a mobile service or maintenance route.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain edible gardens, fruit trees, ornamental plantings, and other residential landscapes throughout Los Angeles.
  • Perform routine and seasonal care, including planting, harvesting, pruning, weeding, watering, fertilizing, mulching, soil preparation, and cleanup.
  • Identify and care for common edible, ornamental, and native plants, including annual vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, and edible perennials.
  • Monitor plant health and troubleshoot common pest, disease, soil, and irrigation problems, escalating repair or treatment needs when appropriate.
  • Perform physical landscape work, including digging, raking, shoveling, and moving tools, equipment, soil, compost, and other materials.
  • Keep client properties, tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Complete an assigned daily service route efficiently and to Farmscape’s quality standards, driving between client properties, vendors, and company locations.
  • Work independently after training, manage time across scheduled properties, and communicate promptly when work cannot be completed as planned.
  • Complete service logs, photographs, client updates, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Follow Farmscape’s work plans, horticultural practices, communication procedures, and safety standards, and attend required meetings and training.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, provide appropriate garden updates, and promptly escalate client requests, property damage, scheduling issues, and other concerns.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, communicate supply and inventory needs, respond constructively to feedback, and represent Farmscape professionally at every property.
  • Perform other related gardening, landscaping, farming, and maintenance duties as needed.
