Requirements

  • A minimum of a 4-year degree in Social Sciences, or Education.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience within the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion space, in a capacity directly mentoring and working with students.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and awareness of social identities.
  • Applying understanding of current social issues and the impact of those issues related to achieving an inclusive learning environment.
  • Experience working with and supporting equity-seeking groups, including individuals impacted by mental health challenges.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant legislation and frameworks, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Bill 166, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with community organizations, service providers, and other external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct literature reviews, environmental scans, and research activities to support program development, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders across a post-secondary environment.
  • Experience facilitating knowledge mobilization, educational initiatives, workshops, or training programs.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the preparation of reports, briefing materials, and presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to handle competing demands.

Nice To Haves

  • A Masters degree is preferred.
  • Experience with Canva is considered an asset.
  • Training and/or certifications in: Ontario Human Rights Code/Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion/Social Justice, Sexual or Gender-based Violence, Intercultural Communication, Crisis Intervention/Mental Health First Aid/Suicide intervention skills, Trauma-Informed practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 Navigation Support & Case Management to Equity-Deserving Students, including enhancing and maintaining case management documentation, providing emotional support, campus and community services navigation, referrals, warm handovers, advocacy, and maintaining the community-resources list.
  • Deliver the Mentorship Program for Identity-based Student Groups by collaborating with the Durham College Student Association (DCSA) on group development, recruitment, retention, succession planning, advocacy, human rights capacity building, facilitating partnerships, data collection, and curating community-care initiatives.
  • Facilitate the Student Human Rights Capacity Building Program by creating educational and promotional content for the OEDI microsite and social media, collaborating with departments to deliver in-person programming, and developing and delivering interactive learning opportunities.
  • Conduct outreach to Potential Students who are Equity-deserving by identifying, coordinating, and facilitating outreach opportunities in collaboration with relevant departments, including workshops, events, and tours.
  • Cultivate & Coordinate DC-Community Partnerships Relevant to Identity-based Students by coordinating the EDI Community of Practice and identifying/supporting opportunities for community-DC partnerships.
  • Oversee the operations of Multi-Faith & Quiet Spaces, including connecting with users, collaborating on bookings, and marketing the space.
  • Conduct program evaluation, including knowledge gathering and documentation on the impact of program activities for departmental and institutional reports.
  • Perform other related duties as required, including supporting OEDI team activities and providing support to student employees and placement students.
