About The Position

Provide direct patient care and support services in a hospital setting under the direction of nursing staff. Assist with patient care activities, maintain and compile patient records, process orders, and support efficient unit operations while promoting quality patient care and adhering to the organization's nursing philosophy. This role may require flexible scheduling, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program; or Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP, or from a postsecondary institution accredited by a regional accrediting commission or a national accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; or Graduation from an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program; or Graduation from a Paramedic program.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the applicable state; or Current Medical Assistant certification through one of the following recognized credentialing organizations: AAMA (CMA), AMT (RMA), NHA (CCMA), AAH (RMA), or NCCT (NCMA), with completion of the required educational program; or Current EMT-Basic (EMT-B) or Advanced EMT (EMT-A) licensure in the applicable state; or Current Paramedic licensure in the applicable state.
  • CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
  • Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Documents care provided according to standards
  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment
  • Maintains supplies, stocking new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Processes orders in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Answers the telephone and call lights appropriately and provides information or relays messages to patients and staff.
  • Directs visitors to patient's rooms.
  • Maintains medical records of current patients.
  • Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed.
  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
  • Performs 12 Lead EKGs as directed
  • Starts IV as directed
  • Performs venipunctures as directed
  • Assists ED MDs with intubation by gathering needed equipment
  • Performs CPR and places the Lucas on patients during resuscitations
  • Performs splint applications
  • Assist with chest tube insertions by gathering needed supplies equipment
  • Performs BGMs as directed
  • Transports non-monitored patients to the inpatient units
