The ED Technician provides direct patient care as assigned, following established standards of care, shift routines, and policies. This role involves responding to call lights promptly, documenting care accurately, maintaining a clean and organized work and patient environment, and managing supplies. The technician processes orders, answers the telephone, provides information, relays messages, and directs visitors. They also maintain medical records, process patient charges, and order supplies as needed. Participation in department performance improvement activities is expected. Specific procedures include performing 12-lead EKGs, starting IVs, performing venipunctures, assisting with intubations and chest tube insertions by gathering equipment, performing BGMs, and performing CPR and applying Lucas devices during resuscitations. The technician also performs splint applications and transports non-monitored patients to inpatient units.
