About The Position

The ED Technician assists Registered Nurses (RNs) and physicians with patient assessments, examinations, and treatments. Under RN supervision, the technician performs a variety of technical and patient-care duties and carries out essential Unit Secretary functions. The role includes documenting patient care, collecting specimens, maintaining equipment and supplies, and communicating observations and changes in patient condition to the RN or physician/provider.

Requirements

High school education, GED, or equivalent is required.
CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy is required.
AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS is required.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM), or TEAM-A certification is required.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s or technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (CMA), or Paramedic certification.
Phlebotomist Technician license.

Responsibilities

Assist the RN and physician with assessments, examinations, and treatments.
Perform technical and patient-care duties under RN supervision.
Perform essential functions of the Unit Secretary.
Document patient care, including vital signs, bedside care, and observations.
Maintain equipment and supplies appropriate to the position and keep them ready for use.
Help contain costs through appropriate ordering and conservation of supplies and equipment.
Prioritize patient care and department needs, set goals, and organize time to meet daily nursing-care demands.
Observe, document, and report patient condition and changes in condition to the RN or MD/provider.
Provide patient and family education within scope of practice.
Record and collect specimens.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
