ED Technician: Adult ED - 36hrs/week, NIGHTS
About The Position
Emergency department technicians provide specialized assistance to nurses and physicians, including administering tests with diagnostic exams and therapeutic procedures. ED technicians interact with substantially ill and unstable patients. Albany Medical Center is the only hospital accredited as a Level One trauma center in the Capitol District and provides the highest level of total care for every aspect of injury. ED technicians are uniquely trained to provide lifesaving interventions for traumatic injuries and medical emergencies. This role may require access to sensitive information belonging to Albany Med Health System, its patients, affiliates, and partners, including HIPAA Protected Health Information and other information regulated by federal and New York State statutes. Workforce members must access only the minimum information needed to perform assigned duties, limit use or disclosure to the minimum necessary for the intended purpose, and make reasonable efforts under Albany Med Health System policies and standards to protect information from unauthorized access and modification.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Honest and punctual, with conduct adhering to the highest ethical standards defined by Albany Medical Center and the tenets of the profession.
- Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees, and others.
Nice To Haves
- Six months to one year of previous experience as an ED Technician and/or previous EMS experience is desired.
Responsibilities
- Assist with resuscitation, CPR, and emergency airway procedures.
- Perform venipuncture to obtain blood specimens.
- Provide technical support to physicians and nurses in patient care.
- Report patient condition to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
- Assist with transporting patients to other departments.
- Assist with obtaining and documenting vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring.
- Obtain 12-lead EKGs and discontinue peripheral IVs and heparin/saline locks.
- Assist with wound care and insertion of Foley catheters and nasogastric tubes.
- Assist with positioning patients and applying orthopedic splints and dressings.
- Measure and fit crutches and canes and instruct patients on their proper use.
- Protect sensitive information by limiting access, use, and disclosure to the minimum necessary and following applicable policies and standards.
